Mariah Robertson’s Chemical Reactions | ART21

How does an artist come to grips with the uncontrollable? Filmed over the course of four years, artist Mariah Roberston experiments with photographic chemistry in her Brooklyn darkroom, leading to a striking series of colorful cameraless abstractions. Confronted with a roll of paper that was accidentally exposed, Robertson begins to play with the ruined paper, saying “I always enjoy trying to make something out of the unwanted thing and go deeper into the disaster.” Robertson experiments with developer, fixer, and water at various concentrations and temperatures, creating vibrant images that appear to have optical or painterly effects but instead are the result of arrested chemical reactions. Robertson faces another challenge when she discovers that metallic photo paper no longer comes in precut sheets but only on coiled rolls. Forced to adjust, she responds by tearing rolls of paper into free-form sheets with jagged edges. In contravention of standard exhibition practice, Robertson installs the fully exposed rolls of 100 feet or more as unframed sculptural ribbons, hanging them in looping swathes that respond to the surrounding architecture. Contemplating what it means to exhibit her one-of-a-kind artworks in such a vulnerable way, Robertson suggests that “all your attempts are gonna fail at controlling life, so you should let that go so you can actually see what's happening.” Featuring the artworks "33" (2014) and "222" (2012) in the artist’s darkroom; "11" (2012) installed in the exhibition "XL: 19 New Acquisitions in Photography" at The Museum of Modern Art; "113" (2012) at M+B; "9" (2011) installed at Museum 52 and BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art; "88" (2010) installed in the exhibition "Greater New York" at MoMA PS1; as well as the installation process for the exhibition "Hot Tropical Rain Jam" (2011) at Museum 52; and the Halloween opening for the exhibition "Permanent Puberty" (2013) at American Contemporary. Featuring the songs "Mavi Sepet" (2008) by Hayvanlar Alemi, "Divider" (2011) and "Air Hockey Saloon" (2014) by Chris Zabriskie, and Jeremiah Iriemiah’s reggae cover of "How Deep Is Your Love" (1977) by the Bee Gees. Mariah Robertson (b. 1975, Indianapolis, IN, USA) grew up in Sacramento, California, and lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. 3. Paedophilia & child marriage in Islam

Paedophilia & child marriage in Islam

Does Islam condone paedophilia / pedophilia and child marriage? What does the Quran say on the issue? What do the scholars say? What are the rules concerning marriage and sex in relation to age in Sharia law? 4. 6 YEAR OLD WIFE OF MUHAMMAD WAS OKAY BY THE MUSLIM GOD ALLAH BUT NOT BY THE BIBLICAL GOD OF JESUS

6 YEAR OLD WIFE OF MUHAMMAD WAS OKAY BY THE MUSLIM GOD ALLAH BUT NOT BY THE BIBLICAL GOD OF JESUS

Most people seem to be unaware that the tradition of old men taking child brides is widely practiced in Muslim lands because they are following the example of Mohammad. In Iran as of June 2002 it is legal for a 9 year old girl to marry with her parents' permission. Voices Behind the Veil p.136-137. The Taliban encouraged families to marry off their daughters as young as eight years old. (Voices Behind the Veil p.110). The Dallas Morning News Sep 28, 2003 p.1,10S had a story about the sad plight of Muslim Nigerian girls who were married very young, got pregnant and had labor before their small bodies were ready. It was actually somewhat of a gross story, basically of many girls who needed C-sections but did not get them. Many survived, but could not have any children due to their perforated uteruses. The following is documented from Islamic sources (authoritative Muslim hadiths) concerning the 53-year-old Muslim prophet's sexual desire to have a 6-year-old for a wife (there is much more): 1. Sahih al-Bukhari 810-870 A.D. 256 A.H. 1a. "Narrated Hisham's father: Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consummated that marriage when she was nine years old." Bukhari vol.5 book 58 ch.43 no.236 p.153. 1b. The same points are in Bukhari vol.5 book 58 ch.43 no.234 p.152. 1c. "Narrated 'Urwa: The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with 'Aisha while she was six year old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death). Bukhari vol.7 book 62 ch.60 no.88 p.65 1d. Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet was screening me with his Rida' (garment covering the upper part of the body) while I was looking at the Ethiopians who were playing in the courtyard of the mosque. (I continued watching) till I was satisfied. So you may deduce from this event how a little girl (who has not reached the age of puberty) who is eager to enjoy amusement should be treated in this respect. Bukhari vol.7 book 62 ch.115 no.163 p.119 1e. "Narrated 'Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet) I never remembered my parents believing in any religion other than the true religion (i.e. Islam), and (I don't remember) a single day passing without our being visited by Allah's Apostle in the morning and in the evening." Bukhari vol.5 book 58 ch.44 no.245 p.158. Therefore 'Aisha either was not born yet or else not very old or not born yet when her parents became Muslims. This is consistent with her being a child when her marriage with Mohammed was consummated. 2. Sahih Muslim 817-875 A.D. 261 A.H. "(3310) 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house when I was nine years old." 5. Sunan Nas'ai 830-915 A.D. 215-303 A.H. 5a. A'ishah said: The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him married her when she was six and had intercourse with her when she was nine. (Sunan Nas'ai, Book of Marriage, no.3255) 5b. A'ishah said: The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him married me when I was seven and had intercourse with me when I was nine. (Sunan Nas'ai, Book of Marriage, no.3256) 5c. A'ishah said: The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him married me when I was nine and I accompanied him for nine years. (Sunan Nas'ai, Book of Marriage, no.3257) 5d. A'ishah said: The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him married her when she was nine and died when she was eighteen. (Sunan Nas'ai, Book of Marriage, no.3258) 5e. A'ishah said: The Apostle of Allah peace be upon him married me when I was six and had intercourse with me when I was nine and I was playing with dolls. (Sunan Nas'ai, Book of Marriage, no.3256). Those wishing to see more of our videos on Islam can simply type "LARRY WESSELS ISLAM" in the YOUTUBE search box. John 14:6
